The Guides

The Bookmark Guides Association is a group of highly trained local personnel who are considered to be experts in their field, and they comprise a collection of several environmentally aware companies.

Incorporating Environmentally Sustainable Development, these companies offer products ranging from sightseeing tours and pure enjoyment of the local environment, to specialist activities such as Birdwatching, 4 Wheel Drive Adventuring, Dinghy trips in the river's backwaters, and secluded and relaxing Accommodation on the banks of the mighty Murray River.

The Guides have all undergone intensive training, which taught them all about the natural environment, concentrating on the flora and fauna and the ecology of the local area.

They also learned about the local history of the area, the Aboriginal culture and history of their occupation, and even the hydrology of the river system and its inherent problems associated with the installation of the locks. They've studied the local weather conditions and their effect on the environment and the history of flooding in this area in days gone by.

Each Bookmark Guide has qualified in Aussie Host, and each is fully trained in first aid, having each attained a Senior First Aid certificate.

Training courses have made them adept at identification and understanding of all the local fauna, including Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, Insects and some of the River and Wetlands' aquatic life. No need to be afraid of that snake in the grass, as all Guides have been trained in Snake identification and safe handling.
